state - a politically organized body of people under a single government
The way this country was intended to be was that the national gov't would have very little effect in the people's lives. The individual states would decide by themselves how to govern the people; which in turn was decided by the people.
However, in case you haven't noticed. The National Gov't is very much in our lives. I wonder how much longer we will be the United States of America. I wonder how long it will be until this country will be called The United State of America.
It is interesting to read books like 1984, Animal Farm, and Farenheit 451. To see movies like V for Vendetta and the Matrix. How long until our people are so dumbed down and lazy that they can't do anything about their gov't.
Look at obesity in america. Do you think we can stand up to the gov't? Did you know that obesity contributes to a sleeping disorder called sleep apnea? This disorder limits air to the brain and cause people to not get enough sleep even though they are in bed more than 8 hours. This contributes to poor brain function and memory problems
Funny how we see the dumbing down of the schools. Combine this with the obesity problem among kids. Then add the sleep apnea from the obesity. Next we have kids who hate to read or do any type of intellectual activity. Most kids rather watch TV or play video games. Not that these activities are bad in and of themselves; but it is the type of programing that the youth is into. The next generation will not care about how the gov't is run.
The youth isn't the only problem. Look at the media. Oh man! Are there only 2 veiws to everything? Right and left?
Why was "UNITED WE STAND" such a big slogan. No one remembered the rest of that slogan; "DIVIDED WE FALL". Union is very important and so is diversity; but not division. If we are so opposed to each other that we can't accept each other we get no where.
So what am I getting at? Keep our liberty! As long as you don't kill anyone, take away anyone's rights and do not steal from them I don't care what you do. Get the gov't out of my face and keep your grubby hands out of my pockets and away from my rights.
Rights are not given by a peice of paper. The Constitution is there to protect our rights... not give them to you. We are born with rights. Not given rights.

Well, hello sir. I am going to sway your way and say there is information out there to help us understand and keep out rights, so why does no one do it? Yes, once again laziness and I can attest for this as you well know. We have so much information at the palm of our hands, but yet seem more misinformed about important information. Besides all that, look at our lifestyles it seems there is never time in the day to think, with all the working and eating and mindless activities we are constantly doing.
I also feel that schools could be doing so much more in efforts to raising awareness about the world, awareness about our society, maybe even awareness of our rights (what a concept). Education is an awesome tool if properly used but with so much BS that schools HAVE to teach it seems there is no room for teachers to teach anything important, at least that means anything that isn't on a test is not considered "important" and to who? well, I couldn't tell you, I don't think anyone can tell you. And talking about obesity in children, I also want to go back to schools and examine why it is our children are obessed besides their lifestyle at home. First of all we can look at the food being served there as well as the Coca-Cola or Pepsi companies that have contracts with the schools. I want to also look at the loss of recess because of the demand of busy work. I also want to point out in No Child Left Behind act since teachers are more pressured to focus on trying to have students understand reading and math more than any other subject (understand= learn how to score well on a test).. what area do you think suffers? Oh the physical education as well as the arts and music. I don't want to go off topic I just want to delve further into an institution that could be used for so much good, and could help children become better citizens and better thinkers, but don't because of laws made by the government that is supposed to be helping our future generation. I would say the government has a lot of effect on our lives, but we just don't always see it.
